Hey!

First of all this is an absolutely gorgeous game which i've just spent an hour playing, thank you so much for bringing this delight into the world :)

Secondly, I was wondering if you'd played any of the point-and-click adventure/puzzle games by Amanita Studios? This reminded me of Samorost and Botanicula in particular, what with meeting all the different types of people and the richness and variety of the worlds. If you havent played them, definately do! they're just as beautiful and relaxing to play as yours is

Ive been wanting to make a game like this (free roaming through different environments, meeting characters and understanding the world as you go) for a while but havent got any game development experience, and only the tiniest bit of coding knowledge. I read that you used Unity for this, was it fairly easy to use or did you previously have game dev experience?

Any advice you could give would be welcome, thanks again for making such a wonderful game to experience <3

Thank you!

No, I haven't played anything by Amanita Studios, but I'm efinitely going to now! Thank you for the tip. :)

I too have limited coding/dev experience, but I find Unity quite approachable. I'd only done two tiny games by myself previously--a crummy platformer demo, and a weird little art game. It's just a question of figuring out exactly what you want to do, and googling for tricks and tutorials on how to do it. You'll learn the software as you go along.

My main advice is to keep the scale of you first game as small as possible. Seriously small. Most likely it'll grow out of hand later anyways. Storyseeker was originally supposed to be a 2 week project to test out how to make a game that has no other mechanic besides walking around. 6 months and innumerable features, characters, scripts, and entire new zones later, here we are...

Please, if you ever need any help or want me to have a look at something you're making, contact me on twitter @qwertyprophecy. Good luck!

Had fun exploring this strange and unique world.

Been looking for a game with unique locations other than "forest, mountain region" etc.

This is one of those games that will stay in my library and I will return to again.

On a technical side:

I wasn't able to go fullscreen, and it did not provide me my native resolution  to choose (1920x1080).

I feel there is anti aliasing either over the entire screen or on each indidivdual sprite that makes not not as sharp and crisp as they should be.

Thank you for the feedback!

You're right, there's a blurriness problem on the sprites (and it's especially bad on some of them) and resolutions in general. The game was originally built to be played very small, originally on in a browser, so the sprites get stretched after I made it possible to make the window bigger. It's a bit unfortunate.

I'm not sure why you're unable to go fullscreen--which OS are you using?

Latest version of windows 10. I tried alt + enter and F11

I did it! took forever, but I found them all.

I really enjoyed this! I love this free roam, no hand holding way of telling the story but even though I found all  the pillars and entered the temple I felt helpless at the end. I'm guessing this is intentional and really speaks to how well this game is made. Nice one!

Hey there!

My name is Shahidah and I'm a Youtuber from Malaysia.

Just came across this game and judging by the comments and all, it's super awesome!

Is it okay for me to record the gameplay and monetize the video on Youtube?

Thanks and have a great day!

Yours,

Shahidah

Yes, that's fine. Feel free to send me a link! I hope you enjoy the game.

Thank you so much! <3

{Spoiler warning}

I love this game. The art is amazing, the music is calming and helps set a mood well, and the writing is excellent.

(I absolutely loved finding the sea serpents and realizing they were lesbian)

I have seen beyond the door, and I know about the knight and the accident.

I am one of the three of my people that were not frozen.

I am the traveler.

I found the knight slayer, who guards the eye.

Is it possible to find the mapmaker?

Thanks, I loved your game.

Thank you!

The lesbian sea serpents are some my favourites, too.

The signmaker is around, certainly.

Update: I found the signmaker and I love it.

I enjoyed this game thoroughly, keep up the good work!

I quite enjoyed the game!! Great job! I think ill go back through and find all the totems!

Developers should take notes from the calming design of this game. Hyvä  äijjät

It's a lovely game, I have to go back and find all the totems. :)

Per viewer request I had to go back and get that door open. I almost wish I hadn't. It makes you feel so helpless, this beautiful world locked in what seems like many times colliding, the history, rise and fall of it's citizens, all happening at once. You want to help but all there is to do is observe. My first look I found it really relaxing, calm and cool, this one, however, makes it feel almost like an experimental horror game. (This is a quick sprint to the end and doesn't go into as much detail as my fist video)

!! Please tell me if there’s a way to save the world. I’ve fallen in love with it and leaving it frozen is unbearable. I’ve reached the heart of time and settled there- is there anything else I can do?

You are more of a historian than a hero.
But the denizens of the world are trying their best. They'll find a way.

Legit just made an account to say this, I love this game so much hollly moly

The art, amazing. The sounds, amazing. The music oh my god its fantastic. And the story too oh I just love how its conveyed and Im pretty sure I haven't found everything in here yet.

Ahh so kind of you to go through the effort of saying this! I'm glad you enjoyed!

Yeah there's a whole lot of stuff to see out there, but hopefully there's no stress to find it all. Everyone gets to walk their own path and see their own version of the world!

Relaxing, beautiful and intriguing. The art and music are gorgeous and the game manages to really hold your interest with tiny snippets of text alone. Really glad that I tried this out
