The Dark Queen of Mortholme, ist ein Storygame mit kurzen Brawler Mechaniken die an sich sehr träge anfühlen, da wir die Antagonistin spielen und früher oder später zum Scheitern verurteilt sind. "The Hero", adaptiert nach und nach, wird stärker und lernt zunehmend unseren Angriffen auszuweichen. Es ist sozusagen die POV eines Darksouls bosses, allerdings bekommen wir Eindrücke welche möglichen Gedankengänge ein Boss wohl haben muss, wenn der Protagonist immer und immer wieder auf der Matte steht.
Ein witziger Gedanke, und gutes Konzept das ich so bisher noch nicht gesehen habe und eine Frage beantwortet die wir uns alle stellen.
Story, Humor, Grafik, Effekte und Musik sind absolut klasse, fantastisch wäre noch gewesen, wenn es soetwas wie "Final Screens" und verschiedene Endings und Plottwists gäbe. Die Screens geben einem zumindest das Gefühl etwas erreicht zu haben. (gutes Beispiel hier wäre Security: The Horrible Nights)
Außerdem hatten alle auf eine Romance Ending gehofft.
In the beginning I wanted to see how many times I can keep on killing him for the longest run but it's already in the algorithm, wanted to torture him but enjoyed the ending later on, a really amazing game with suitable art style.
This a amazing game, o really would like a "Romance final" with the hero causing a change in the queen and at the same time this internal dynamic between the two leading them to feel something for each other
What a beautiful game i like how the mc gets stronger the more we go brings a whole lot of challenge to it, the dialogue options are cute too even showing a sense of humanity for the queen, the way the queen becomes more gentle with the hero the more we go. I hope more endings will be available in the future but overall i really loved the concept of this game.
I am now demanding that someone make a 30 chapter enemies to lovers fic about the queen and the hero cause that shit be tragic. also good game would wipe my mind and play again for the first time ever even if it gave me uber cancer.

This was frustrating more than anything. Is not that the hero is "getting better" he's straight breaking the game, I can get the predictions, but animation cancel and phantom hitbox, cmon. I was hoping to actually get defeated by a good hero. Maybe I'm just a bad boss
Why dies this pull my heart strings so bad!? I love the idea and concept of this game, i played it 3 times and i made a 3 minute video review about it. I hope it brings more people to play this game!
That's a fun little game. With loop player basically gets a smaller and smaller, until basically non-existing hitbox, making fighting him normally impossible. the way to surrender him though really works. As already commented below, you have to stay by the wall (you basically almost don't have to move away from the throne at all), spam 3 and as he comes closer to you, avoiding the spell circle behind him, press 1 to make him go back into it. Funny enough, you don't even attack him yet, he just feels that 1 was pressed and reacts, lmao. Like how there are little variations to the dialogue depending on what would you choose. And I wonder how weak was the army if he only learnt how to slash with the sword by the first arrival to the Queen.

1️⃣ A arte do jogo é simplesmente incrível. Mesmo com um único cenário, tudo foi muito bem trabalhado, desde o ambiente até o design dos personagens. Dá para ver o capricho na estética!
2️⃣ Existem algumas hitboxes um pouco bugadas, mas nada que realmente comprometa a jogabilidade. Ainda assim, seria interessante um ajuste fino nesse aspecto.
3️⃣ Apesar do jogo se passar em um único cenário, ele não se torna repetitivo. A narrativa prende muito bem o jogador, e isso foi um grande acerto. Mantém a experiência envolvente e imersiva!
4️⃣ Se houver planos para um novo projeto no futuro, uma ideia legal seria um jogo onde o jogador assume o papel de todos os chefes. Ou seja, na primeira fase você começa como um boss mais fraco, já que é o primeiro desafio do protagonista. Conforme o jogo avança, você melhora e evolui, tornando-se cada vez mais poderoso. Assim, quando chegar na quarta ou quinta fase, o jogador já teria desenvolvido bastante o boss para encarar um herói cada vez mais forte. Acho que essa dinâmica resultaria em um jogo bem diferente e divertido!
No geral, curti demais a jogatina! Foi uma experiência única e muito bem feita. 👏🔥
Parabéns para o cara que fez esse jogo! Não joguei mais que 2 jogos no itch.io, mas esse foi de longe o melhor e um dos melhores, senão o melhor jogo curto que já joguei. Acredito que a beleza do jogo seja os diálogos e sobre se colocar no lugar do boss final e do Heroi, e entender que no jogo, cada um está cumprindo seu papel. Gostei de verdade!
1) I really enjoyed the game. It's a fun and creative experience that kept me engaged from start to finish. The mechanics are intuitive, and the atmosphere is immersive. What stood out the most was the unique art style and how it adds depth to the narrative.
2) Throughout the game, I started to notice that the hero's hitbox seemed to simply disappear at times. My attacks wouldn't register as hits, even though I was clearly striking the hero. This caused some frustrating moments.
3) If the game gets any updates, I would suggest adding the ability to chain attacks together. This would give me more options in combat and allow for more strategy, especially against the hero. It could also make the AI smarter in adapting to my moveset. I understand that, as a final boss, I won’t have upgrades like better weapons or spells, aside from possibly a second phase. So, I believe being able to chain attacks would be a solid addition. Alternatively, fixing the hero's hitbox would also be a great improvement.
4) I read that there are at least three possible endings: one where the hero wins, another where I just stand still and do nothing, and a third where the hero surrenders. However, I haven't been able to get the ending where the hero surrenders. Since my last comment I've played the game four more times, choosing different dialogue options and even defeating the hero using only my mace, yet I always end up with the same ending where the hero wins. I'd almost say the ending doesn’t exist, but I’ve seen people on Youtube and forums who claim to have unlocked it.
There's a cheese tactic for getting the give up ending. You need to trick the player's AI, whenever you use the spell circle he'll move forward to get out, if you use the mace then he'll move back to avoid it.
Basically hug a wall, spam 3, when he's close due to the spell circle press 1, and then he'll walk back into the spell and die.
Very sad game, but also sweet. Although on my first playthough the game glitched, making both the queen and the hero unkillable. Which lead to the "you're not trying anymore" dialogue. So the hero kept fighting me and I kind of just gave up. And then they stopped and the hero and the queen just stared at each other for all eternity. I consider this to be the good ending.
By the scale of this game, this kind of story was more touching than a lot of other story games that are much longer. Having a smaller story that has a big meaning and love in it is much more valuable. Hope your future games are as touching as this.
