Noticed something that bothered me during playthroughs. First, the Queen. Her attacks do not combine and have a dodge pattern of 1 action per instance. Which makes it look easy at the part of the adventurer, even when he didn't face the attack before, at a certain point, he begins to dodge it 100% of the time (if you keep it in a pocket in efforts to surprise him). That's not how it ought to work... Second, the Adventurer. I noticed that he defies one of the core points of a Souls-like design - each action a player makes must have a recovery window, the one opponents use to punish said action. In this game, the "hero" is able to cut the attack animation right into defence, making thought-out moves futile and painfully reducing the depth of combat. The only action the hero cannot cancel into another is jump, which he does sometimes in attack, and this move is comparatively rare. This combination of inability to employ player skill in combat, combined with an opponent having only 1 window you can punish makes the fight obnoxious and unenjoyable for a veteran souls-player.
Listen to me here, the game is really good. I really liked it. The idea of playing as a boss is simply amazing. And the enemy that comes every time and learns all your moves is really a game for every man. 10/10
Okay, I accidentally came across this game in rus-shorts on YouTube. I researched it, watched a lot of walkthroughs on YouTube and the reaction of the community, even made an account on itch io to speak out! What can I say? The game has an interesting concept in which the player does not play as a hero in shining armor, as is usually the case in soulslike and roguelike games, but as the boss - the final one, the next one - it does not matter. The game's narrative sort of reveals the perspective of the characters' adventures from the bosses' point of view, drawing some philosophy to it, and damn, it's expressed perfectly, which is why I almost shed a tear. It is noticeable that the game was made with enthusiasm, because even the current AAA games do not take me to emotions. I wish the developer to further develop his skills and overcome all kinds of difficulties, as the Hero did. I don't know if it's appropriate to expect this game to continue, because the Queen's story seems complete anyway. Maybe let everyone come up with their own headcanon for the sequel? p.s. - I used a translator, so please don't judge me too much if I expressed myself incorrectly somewhere)
Last time when i played dark souls boss used 3 different combo of 4 attack. Its literally game about megaman miniboss with long health bar and second stage what make you different megaman miniboss with high resistance.
I'm giving the game one because the queen's attacks are not thought out. Where attacks would take place in souls-like games, the player somehow gets through the attacks, and in the end, when in the second phase it is clear that the queen is hitting the player, he does not take damage, but the queen dies almost from a poke. Awful. It's not supposed to work that way.
I am on a step where hero comes in saying: "Oops, my fault, got distracted", or something like that, I have answer choices: "What happened?"/"There is still fight in me". The hero keeps coming in and dying, then repeats the previous dialog with no changes. I even stopped fighting back but he dies from just approaching me. Is it intended, or i am doing something wrong? A bug?
Very frustrating game. It's not even a fighting at this point, with the controls being so clunky, more like a kinetic visual novel. I heard you can get a different ending by defeating the hero. I literally killed the poor fella 5 times in a row, getting the same "Am I even progressing at this point" dialogue over and over, but then I threw one time and it's game over? I have to re-do the whole tedious work again, walking up to that damn throne and spamming space to skip the annoying dialogue I've come to get tired of? Nah, it ain't worth it when the battle outcome is either scripted (literally all of them except the *last one*, supposedly) or based on RNG.
It's justwhatIneeded. I've been looking for a soulfulgame for a long time andfinallyfoundit. To pass is nottopass. Iwant to translateitintoRussian, ifyou'reinterested, here's the discord (stopchic).
so so so fantastic. scratched a lot of itches i had felt for a long while. the art and music is gorgeous and serves the game incredibly well. the changing animation got me quite badly the first time.
The game is beautiful, the concept, the dialogues, the built up into slowly knowing your demise is inevitable and the fear that built up in me into thinking that I am going to die (because yeah I got really into the character) is very well achieved, it made my chest feel heavy as soon as my life bar was depleted, I really felt bad for the queen. A masterpiece in writing and expression, truly one of those games that will have a little space in my memory forever
I am infinitely grateful to the developers for this masterpiece. Guys, you are as amazing as your game! This short game took up much more space in my soul than most of the big ones I've played before. I would be happy to help translate it into Ukrainian. If you are interested in my help - write to me in discord (ilia2284444)
Hi! First, this is a sort of masterpiece. A proof that we don't have to pay a lot to play some good games. I really enjoyed this 20 minutes of playing.
I'd like to translate this game from english to italian, my mother language. Contact me on discord if you're interested (voidn3t_fake)
The Dark Queen of Mortholme is a poignant masterpiece.
I highly recommend playing it!
I found its story, while simple, to be very thoughtful, thoughtprovoking, and wise. It lacks minor, very specific, player interactions but those barely matter for the most important aspects/interactions are covered. This game made my day and will be in the back of my mind for years to come, of that I am sure.
On the linux version, the button to advance text and claim the hero is only mapped to space. There's no controller mapping for this function. The rest of the controls seemed to have mapped to a controller successfully. Thanks! This is definitely a fun one!
An issue for me too. On my system (Mint 22.1), only the D-pad and Joystick work, action buttons don't work at all. Can't even go past the menu with the controller

the idea of player doing moves that are similar to a real human player is gross, and the plot lines are nice, too
This was a really enjoyable little experience. The writing was pretty good. I recommend playing it through =)

There was a delay before using attacks and I noticed my attacks were going through but not doing any damage.
This is stupid.
Of course theres a delay, and your attacks have obvious weakpoints. You are the darksouls boss. You are designed to have weakpoints.
