My game seems to have bugged out? the hero suddenly started taking contact damage from the queen and even if I do nothing they run at me and die and then say the exact same "oops I was distracted" line afterwards. they also have three hearts but the damage they take skips their first heart and directly damages their second one (leaving the first and third heart both full), so they die in two hits instead of three. I let it play out a few times but nothing changed so I think its a bug
It goes beyond the ordinary, the "normal" and does it perfectly. The funny but at the same time deep dialogues, the lore, animations, characters, gameplay and EVERYTHING is perfect.
A game worth playing again, and a thousand times more.
It was really good and the underlying message was just so good. Honestly i usually dont replay games a lot but this one made me just to see all the endings 10/10
the description doesnt really say much u have to interpret the queens feeling on ur own thats why i like it sm :D
i liked the game and since i dont usually read a lot of the description of the games i play (cuz i only play free games) it was nice for me as i havent seen such a concept be done before
im not saying it may not exist its just nothing i've personally seen
if someone enjoys smth u dont have to go and try to change their opinion ok? ur opinion will still be valid mmhm? its ok that some ppl might like smth that u wont :)
would genuinely pay for this game if my money situation wasnt tight. incredibly fun experience and while my life isnt changed by the philosophy it probably has been changed by the graphics. my only complaint is that i cant tab out of the game to get a screenshot i can use as my computer's wallpaper
This game is an absolute work of art, the pure anti-game that gets its themes across perfectly. You should be very very proud of this piece, it belongs in art galleries and this game will sit in my heart for a long time.
Thank you for making it, I will be following what you make <3
Whenever I try running the exe, I get the following error: "The code execution cannot proceed because SDL2.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem."
I have reinstalled the exe multiple times, yet the problem didn't get fixed.
-Fixed it, I downloaded SDL2.dll from the github page, and placed it in the same folder as the exe
I thought "Cool! i'll just spam one attack so he can't learn how any of the others work!" Which was good for two minutes, until i HAD to use another attack just to find out the hero could already judge and dodge it perfectly.
I understood exactly what the game was about before i had even downloaded it; once i knew how the game worked mechanically i saw no interest in wasting my time with it.
I would love to sit here running through predetermined dialog in a single linear story with a premade set amount of fight sequences using clunky controls that only frustrate me as i barrel towards the one ending that anyone after the two sentence description will understand. But i'm not going to waste my time on this "experience."
There isn't any choice here. This thing doesn't give you any choice. It's not an experience worth having. You lose the second you start playing,
while there IS an ending where u can win, the overall reason for this game was to show us the pov of the final boss and how lonely one can get on the top
Also u DO have a choice in what to do as a queen i have completed about 3 endings but im not sure if theres more? i suggest u give it a chance but its ok if games that dont come out and say everything and where u need to interpret a lot of feelings come is ur type of game :)
I'd love to play this game, but it seems like it's broken? As soon as the first fight begins, the Queen spams her attack and never stops. This is preventing me from moving past the first fight, unfortunately. This occurs even with my mouse and keyboard unplugged.
That smug little fuck deserved to get held captive and tortured instead of winning. Wish the queen had done that instead, loved the concept and visuals though!
this got tragically less interesting on a repeat playthrugh as the multiple dialogue options and potential for change made me think there would be multiple outcomes. Once I saw the same exact dialogue tree happen 2 loops in a row it got sort of disillusioning.
It's an great concept, but as other have said, the game basically cheats to get to the predetermined outcome of you losing. The moment you start to see it, everything becomes a lot less enjoyable.
It also undermines the entire premise and story of the game. The hero is not getting better, he is not changing to fit your tactics. He is simply running through lives until he gets to one that triggers the next phase, until he eventually gets to the one that lets him figure out which exact pixel of the screen he can stand on.
"This game is about the capacity for change" -- The author.
It really isn't. Ironically, the only reason this game works is because everything is set on stone.
i really expected that this would be a sort of branching path experience with the potential for outcomes based on how you act or what you tell the Hero. it seems really cheap on a repeat playthrough when you start to see different dialogue options pigeon-holing you back into the same respoonses
I don't think this was ever supposed to be a skill based game or anything like that. This is a visual novel, but in an interesting and unusual format.
This is a game where you don't have the capacity to change, but the enemy does; i.e. now you have to deal with their changes as they come, while you lack that capacity.
Look at this as an inversion of the traditional grind-based game if you must, but it is still just a very creative visual novel.
This is a fun theory, until you realis the fight sequences are the exact same on every playthrough, nothing changes, and the hero's progress is entirely scripted. I was so excited to play this game and it turned out to be a sad attempt at a conclusion you already know before you start with a method that undermines the entire point.
It is not a theory, this is literally a visual novel. The listed genre is "Interactive Fiction".
On top of that, there's a lot of grind based games that are exactly the same. You use the exact same moves and skills over and over again, nothing changes. You just deal that extra bit more damage for that extra hour of grind, and then try again.
Yeah no I wasn't trying to imply that the game should be skill based or anything. I'm okay if the predermined outcome is you lose. The problem is that in the current way that is implemented it diminishes the entire premise.
(I guess? others should have played already this down in the comment section, 20 minute game people)
I thought the whole point was the hero not giving up, and the lessons that the queen ends up learning, hero does seem to get better every fight, I understand it might not have been in the way you expected, an NPC's AI slowly adapting to everything you do, but this game was more about the narrative of change (and the lack of it) at the end of the day.
I think you just got mad that the hero figured out patterns by the end, making you lose. Unfortunately things are always set in stone because games are HARDCODED, unfortunately the game won't rewrite itself to accommodate to what you wanted.
I do get that after a few runs the premise does water down a little bit, but that is just natural since you already finished the game and can no longer be surprised by the hero's apparent improvements.
There is also word in the comments about an ending where the queen actually wins, I haven't got to it yet so I don't know if its possible, but even if there is not such an ending, it doesn't really make the game bad by any means.
I can respect you not liking the game, everyone has their particular taste, but I think you are being a bit too harsh claiming the author's lying or that the game is not enjoyable.
this game was amazing it was both emotional and entertaining, it made me give some respect for the bosses in Souls-like games, every time I figh a boss I will remember this game, this was amazing thanks.
God this was so good, I rlly felt like a final boss, it was a nice change of pace from playing in the perspective of the protag, and I had to try my darndest cause if I died, thats it, most bosses don't respawn, and whenever I messed up instead of thinking it was my mistake, I was only half-right, this time my challenge was learning just like I would if I were in their shoes, I could only use the powers I was given, and the hero was able to learn my patterns and everything, absolute beautiful and heartwarming game, I logged into my Itch acc after years just to write this cause I rlly rlly like this game :3
Unique idea for a game. Definitely would recommend to play.
It is fun to play, but when you see that game is cheating, you can not unsee it. Controller support would also be nice especially when it works in main menu.
I think it could be much better game, maybe even several boss rush game with different story in each of them.

Bro, this game is a diamond in the rough.

Honestly this is one of the best short games I've played in a while. I am going to have to play this again
It was really good and the underlying message was just so good. Honestly i usually dont replay games a lot but this one made me just to see all the endings
10/10
underlying message? my guy it's in the game's description. you read 5 words and there's no need to play the game.
there's no need to be mean
the description doesnt really say much u have to interpret the queens feeling on ur own thats why i like it sm :D

no for sure. that one room is just so beautiful :)
The ending should have been a romance <3.
Jokes aside what a beautiful game you made, the story and art is *chef kiss*
Bought it after playing.
Okay, this comment section is absolutely garbage.

There isn't any choice here. This thing doesn't give you any choice. It's not an experience worth having. You lose the second you start playing,
"You lose the second you start playing"
Then you understood the point.
when reading the description of a game invalidates playing the game at all, the game becomes irrelevant and the final experience is an echo chamber.
"Anti-game", bro.
i think they missed the point of the game
while there IS an ending where u can win, the overall reason for this game was to show us the pov of the final boss and how lonely one can get on the top

you have a very short temper and are uncultured. Either don't comment or stop playing story games. This game has multiple endings you buffoon
Really cool game. Liked the concept. I hoped for a more "good" ending but it is what it is I guess.
im pretty sure there IS an ending where u win or where the hero gives up but i guess it isnt really "good"
Sorry, can I talk with you? I want to know if I can translate the dialogs in your game?
game blew up, make it cost something to make BANK
this is excellent and the writing fantastic. would love to have controller support. 🥺
actually this is a good one, yeah, hoping it would have controller settings someday too
Actually an xbox controller does work. I just used an xbox one wired controller to play the whole game.
oooooohhh I'm trying this one now, thank you beautiful person!!

Dude, you play as a queen. You control her, not the 'hero' cuz it's anti-game (reverse game)
I realize this is how it's supposed to work, but I'm trying to say I have no control over the Queen because of the bug I am experiencing.
possibility to download it on Android ?
That smug little fuck deserved to get held captive and tortured instead of winning. Wish the queen had done that instead, loved the concept and visuals though!

You can choose to refuse to fight multiple times and that leads down to a different ending.
I owe an apology to every boss I've ever beaten, I was the unfair one
This was a good game. I cried. Please make them kiss
felt. relatable. understood. they have something going on that just melts my heart and makes it so warm.

You must be fun at partys
NPC-type reply.
Just because you don't have the brain capacity to have a meaningful discussion about the game doesn't mean everyone else has the same problem.
i really expected that this would be a sort of branching path experience with the potential for outcomes based on how you act or what you tell the Hero. it seems really cheap on a repeat playthrough when you start to see different dialogue options pigeon-holing you back into the same respoonses

Man, this game just made me sad... I really wish they could just become friends, but I understand why they can't
Absolutely fantastic, I want to see more of this.
That was incredible, awesome storyline, art work and animation!
I really enjoyed the conversation and the change of perspective from both character!
Love the game. Really hope you find the motivation to expand upon it. 5 Stars just for the creativity of the idea.
This was incredible for a little 20min~ thing.
Maybe a fully fleshed payed sequel ala Milk Outside a Bag of Milk?
I love it. My only problem is that movement feels a little unresponsive during combat.
Meant to play like that. You are the boss and the zippy player is who you are fighting.
I love it so much
:>

The hero didn't learnt them, it was programmed to run through fights until it hit a checkbox that meant you physically couldn't win.
I ship it
so real
Unique idea for a game. Definitely would recommend to play.
