Update: After trying to download it 20+ times it has finally allowed itself to fully download. Now to have fun playing this interesting concept of a game.
honestly thats what i was hoping would happen and idk if you beat him one more time when you are being nice to him and then you get the ending where they both live. i am not good enough to get there though because when he says one more try it like super hard and i managed to get him to 1 heart but he killed me with bow unfortunely.
This was actually incredible to play, it's solemn. I think it hit me so hard since this is how people actually act in the world. Some just won't change, no matter what. And that costs themselves and everyone else. I feel like you also managed to kind of point at the cost of in-action, which is not something I expected to write about a game (anti-game? interactive thingie) ever. I won't forget about this soon. Fantastic work.
The HOLD this game has over my brain after playing it for the first time. It's such a touching story delivered in such a short time. I can't help but really feel for the Queen! Wish we could've like, I dunno, defeated her and just befriended her. Let her join our party! :D lol, ok, but seriously! The art of this game is so gorgeous and I'd often get distracted just staring at the Queen's animations. That title screen art?? I think I'll make it my wallpaper, it's SO neat. I'll definitely be checking out your other games.
10/10 very beautiful story even though it isn't very long, the dialogue options are just MWAH, and The art style and detail are just a cherry on top! In the end there was only two problems for me. The game isn't that long and the ending glitched out a bit. but the game not being that long is kinda just a part of the charm so I'll let it slide teehee. Please keep making more games. This world needs people like you who actually put depth into their stories even if they're short. I loved this experience and would recommend to any story lover. Please move on to do great things in your future. ;

I will not profit from it in any way, and will be sure to credit the original. Even with me saying this, I lose motivation for things incredibly easily, so this is mostly just an "in case I actually fully follow through with it" ask, rather than a "I plan to fully finish and release it within a set time frame". ^^'

I’m trying to install the game on Linux via the itch app, but the installation silently fails. I had to download it from the website manually. There, I had to chmod +x the binary and then I could run the game. Could you have a look?
(nice to have a Linux build anyway - and fast to export with Godot!)
Amazing, just amazing work! The atmosphere of the throne of the Dark Palace was so great, the decisive battles that take place there, the conversations with the heroes, all very amazing. I was frightened by the heroes who were getting stronger and stronger towards the end, and even more surprised by the psychological changes of the Queen of Darkness. A great love game, meow~!
Simple concept executed extremely well with all the lifelike dialogue and iterations on player-like behaviour needed to sell the idea. As well as an unexpected number of diverging paths. Really impressed by this little game.
That was a very enjoyable experience! The change of perspective from being the hero to being the boss is a very fresh and welcome one, and the progression felt natural, as if the hero really was a player learning the boss' tricks. The dialogues were also very well written. Short and (bitter)sweet, 10/10 experience :)
Imagine at the start of the tutorial, where the game tells you to move and you do not move, so the hero gets restless and does some playerlike movements thinking its a bugged scene.
God, I love this game so much, but the good ending is so bittersweet. I desperately want there to be another way out. Either for another ending to be added, where the queen has a chance to change, to leave willingly along with them. To find out what lies beyond.
Or for there to be some sort of epilogue (maybe even canonically it's because some post-game dlc happens), where they make the queen into a boss weapon/armor/ally summon/etc, letting the queen return to their side in some way. She may not be able to change as a boss, but they can, so maybe they can find a way to rewrite the rules, to give her a way out of that fated role, to let her travel by their side and find the change they now seek.
I’ve always enjoyed games that turn the usual tropes on their head, where you’re not the typical hero slashing through enemies to save the world. Titles like CARRION or the Overlord series come to mind, and Mortholme fits perfectly into this niche.
The gameplay was incredibly enjoyable, especially as the "hero's learning curve" became more evident with every move we showcased from the available arsenal. It added a sense of progression that felt organic and engaging.
The interactive dialogue and story brought so much to the atmosphere. For a brief time, you could truly immerse yourself in the role of the "Final Boss," and even the "inevitable defeat" didn’t feel like a loss but rather a bittersweet ending of a great story.
10/10 – I definitely hope to see more games like this in the future. <3
I really like the game, it's short and fun but I would have liked an ending where the Hero and the queen end up together :,V (I don't know the truth, I like to think that) In short, I like it :D
Just saying, this game could easily have a marriage ending, and it would be awesome (seriously the queen and the hero have better chemistry than some routes in otome games)
RIGHT ? The ai has 100% dodge rate like seriously the queen is too slow to ever have the position to hit the hero. Queen takes same amount of time to turns around for the hero to be across the arena and the queens legs are basically an immune zone and the one attack that hits there is the one that almost never hits and chaining is impossible unless the AI just really wants to die which is doesnt in the last fight for sure so no matter how bad the AIs position is it always dodges or parries the hits so even when it looked like I hit that hero several times in the last phase but didnt even damage them
I actually struggled to get the normal ending because the ai is really bad. If you want the quit ending you can spam 3 and 1 near a wall. (works because he goes through you when you 3 while he is attacking with a sword.)
Don't get me wrong, I love the story but gameplay is extremely cheesable.

I'll be thinking about these two for much longer than the 20 minutes it took to experience their stories. Wonderfully written and beautiful artwork ^^
Honestly love it and hope it gets an update of some sort, maybe he can free us, or maybe even more boss forms :)
