Despite errors present in the output, the Linux version works like a charm on Ubuntu 24.10 Oracular Oriole amd64. Just chmod +x the downloaded file and run.
Thanks for providing not only a native Linux version of the game, but also allowing to download and run it for free to test it first before buying. As this game was original, endearing, and ran without a hitch, I of course bought it to support the dev!
This game has not only intersting gameplay and brilliant story. but also symbolism (Definitely more than love story). Interesting feeling like something dark inside me, that I that I identify with sometimes is being destroyed and cleansed with light power. Dark Queen cuddling fallen hero looks for me like absorbing something with her heart. After defeat of darkness, inner light leaked through heart. And then final strike with sword (sword looks more like spiritual, rather than just weapon).
If you want something similar there's a yuri manga named Mage x Demon Queen
It's really good. One of the best ones. The gist of it is that the mage is in love with the Demon Queen and the Demon Queen keeps killing her until she realizes her feelings for her.
Personally if I was the hero I would never quit, because of that GYATT tbh. even after 1 million death and I'd still thug it out, because pretty tall lady awooga
There should be a secret ending where the Queen kisses the hero like lesbians and that would be so epic (Okay for real though, this is a really fun game!)
I appreciate this game's honesty. Each attack and each move aren't metaphors for a supposed hypothetical battle that occurs in-between cutscenes, but actual events in the canon of the game.
You attack the ground, and in the next fight, the hero comments - 'I'll have to jump next time'. And then, sure enough, they jump next time. It's simple, but this connective string between gameplay and narrative ties this whole thing together really well.
I say this because, well, the story isn't revolutionary or anything - it's the inevitability of change. A well-trodden narrative, ranging from washed up athletes growing old and letting the new guard take its place, to systems of government falling to, hopefully, a better one in the future.
But the way this story is presented, well, I'd say it actually is innovative. The experience of determination against a difficult boss is basically part of gamer canon, and this game leverages that experience to convey the idea that everyone can change, any system can change, given enough effort.
It's an elegant, simple stroke of design, but damn, does it work. I really enjoyed this game.
I don't usually play "low quality", in terms of visual fidelity, games because well I've been disillusioned that graphics quality = high quality game. But when I saw this popup on my YouTube feed: I INSTANTLY loved the idea of the game. Reminds me of Infinity Blade. Apple fucked over those developers and I will forever hate Apple for that. They should have just broke all contracts and released their dungeon crawler and kept on pushing, like the character in your game. This was wonderfully produced and you've now earned a place in my heart and my memories as one of the best game's I've ever played. I will make sure I do my part in letting those around me know that The Dark Queen of Mortholme should be experienced before ones passing. Thank you. Thank you for everything.
Absolutely wonderful idea and execution. The one blemish on this is that sometimes attacks that should have hit, do not. I know that's for story reasons, but maybe the hero needs to dodge those too.
Amazing and emotional. I'm curious as to whether there's a 3rd ending, beyond the hero giving up or the queen dying. Made me have hope but maybe there really isn't a way out of our destiny and we can only live on in memory. :(
That one time Hero didn't came back... I feel like I've just lost good old friend. Thank you, Dev. It was not story I expected, but one I needed. 10/10
Yep, you have to defeat him after he says "Okay, just one more try..." I personally just rushed with 2 and if he tries to take the bow - pressed 3. For me it was too hard to get timing of mace, so 2 + 3 are the best. On second phase I just moved right ON him and spamed 1. It was more than enough
Love it -- I know to some extent the hero is supposed to have immunity in certain parts of the game after a certain point, but it did not feel good to see him standing in the hitbox of an attack and then he didn't get hit. At the final fight, he was standing right in the attacks and not taking any damage. Great game, just unfortunate hitboxes.
It seems that you are the fuck who is dumb. How dare you treat another instance of your own self with such disdain. Were you not at one point in your trials just as fuck dumb as @Zbug10? Why would you even think this kind of behavior would be acceptable? I feel pity for your soul. You still have so much to learn, not only in this life: but of many more to come.
Ugh, these letters arranged in meaningful syllables cause me great cringe, I can agree that the game has a good moral though. 10/10, preety floar reflactions
Holy shit the polish! The dialouge! I love it so much, although controlling the boss was a little frustrating it does make it feel like an actual video game boss. Idk if it was intentional but the hitbox (mainly of the first attack) being forgiving to the little guy is funny, as it's consistent with other video games being forgiving for the player. Although that part was a little frustrating, it made for a great story. Kudos!
I refuse defeat. They shall NOT have it their way...
I don't know if there are more endings, but I am more than willing to find out.
I really liked this game, dark lord simulator is a concept that has already been done before, but always in a jokingly manner, it was not until Mortholme that I got to be the boss under a compelling narrative.
Keep it up, games like these give me hope for the future of gaming.
I absolutely loved this game! Showing decent character development in 20 minutes can't be easy, but you nailed it ^^ I was feeling bad for the queen towards the end lol. I would love to see more "anti-games" from you in the future!

Strange bug happens if you kill the hero and change to you true form at the same time.

Hey, I'm interested in translating your game to Brazilian Portuguese. I'd appreciate it if you could hit me up

reverse stockholm syndrome T-T
Awesome experience! In an update you cold add audio settings that appear in the main menu and the pause menu. Other than that it was perfect!

How do you get that ending? Ive been trying but it seems fatal, I cant figure it out, do you somehow have to defeat him one last time?
Yep, you have to defeat him after he says "Okay, just one more try..."

Ok, sorry king
I appreciate your introspection. You are also a king. We are all kings and queens. We are all the same. We are all one.

Pretty good. Had a lot of fun and laughter. Playing it again.
