Plot twist, she comes back to life too(seriously tho, if made into a full game where she somehow stays alive/goes with him to explore the world this'd make a very wholesome rpg)
It's a good game, the animations and pixelated graphics are nostalgic, and it's incredible how the hero learns each of our moves is a crazy☠️HAHAA
The story while interesting and entertaining, and the interactions are enjoyable (some dialogues made me laugh), this is also its weak point, as there is more monologue than variety of attacks and combos for the character we control and ends up becoming repetitive and boring and frustrating, SO: Not so powerful was really The Dark Queen as she was raised in that universe or as she appeared in the premise of the video game.
Technically speaking, that'd make the story the strong point, while the gameplay is the weak point. There's a lot of dialogues but little gameplay variation. And that checks out, I keep coming back, I keep playing again, but for the story, not for the gameplay, the gamplay gets boring pretty quick, after all, like the queen herself says, this game was rigged from the beginning, the hero WILL inevitably end up winning, and the queen has nothing to do about it, for her, unlike the hero, can't change her way of fighting. Perhaps canonically she can, but not in the game...
Gosh I need more of this. The ability for the queen to change and improve too, pretty please? Perhaps even the ability for the queen to explore with the hero and get stronger alongside them to then fight again, not for the sake of bringing her reign to an end anymore (after all, for her to go out and explore with the hero she would've most likely had to step out of her reign by herself), but for the thrill of it both of them have shown to enjoy through the game. I suppose that would make it a little hard to give an ending to the game though, but I just need more of this! It's a little sad for her to be forever doomed to die, refused the ability to change, even if she does decide not to kill the hero, which is the only thing she can really change as far as I'm aware.
The game was fine, just a bit frustrating cause knight becomes unbeatable the more you advance so you can't win as I died the two times I tried. Knight dodges all your attack even if it looks like they're hitting him so you can't beat the game.
I only got the two different dialogues at the end depending on if you accept your defeat or not. I don't know if you can actually win but looks way too hard
This was one incredible game. I loved it all the way through. Amazing work on the knight AI, brilliant dialogue, impressive art. I have stared at the reflections more times than I care to count.
I can't play, I tried install it but when i click on the exe file my screen goes black and the program quit itself without do nothing. So I tried download it again and it just doesn't work at all. So i downloaded the Itch app and it installed this time apparently but when i tried launch it, the screen blinks black and the game doesn't open. But the launcher says last played at xx seconds and the number of seconds just rise up, but no game at all. Sadly i only can't play because of some sort of error.
Enjoyed this game! It didn't outstay its welcome (though it did get a bit monotonous, I was always looking forward to what came next). It did feel like some of the attacks I landed should have actually hit, but if anything that's just a funny reversal of the classic feeling "how did that hit me!?" when I've played Souls-likes.
Really liked the "feel" of the boss. It felt like I was controlling this big, unwieldy thing.
The game is actually very enjoyable to play and the accompanying lines of dialogue make The Dark Queen of Mortholme a denser game than it seems. Congratulations.
Pretty Good. Enjoyed the story and conversation. Great work, excited to see what you produce in the future :)
A few minor points of feedback
I really felt the monotony, in the first 10 deaths
The combat is a bit too rigid to be considered engaging imo
The "1" ability while in human form, Hitbox is too small, there were several times he was standing on the edge and getting touched by the mace but not taking damaging (I understand this is mainly scripted but it was very immersive breaking)
I found my self in the second half trying to break up the flow. By sitting on the throne, trying to go into the hall, looking out the window, staring at the body, and/ore leaving the body alone aka not burning it. But there were zero interactions in this way. I feel like this game does need at least 1 or 2 points where the flow is broken up and the Queen reflects alone on what is happening. Since the main message is about being alone.
An absolutely wonderful game that's very much worth the half hour to and hour it takes to complete. I wish I could give the two a happier ending, but it wasn't meant to be. Thank you for the experience!
After playing the full game, I can proudly said. This is one hell of a game. It would make AAA games shiver. I can only feel pride when seeing how everything changes and advances throughout the game. It has a beautiful story, nice dialogues and an amazing idea as a backbone.
Mosu you made a beautiful game, u should be proud of yourshelf. Maybe the mechanics wasn't the best point. But how you use that simple mechanic to tell a profound story, its marvelous. This game has HEART, and that is so much to say in 2025. Nice job mate, you have a nice future.
Hey Mosu! I wanted to thank you for a beautiful game. It quickly grabbed me towards its story and incredible characters, starting with the art and animation, which are incredible, but specially with how complex and nuanced the characters felt in such a short runtime.
I also wanted to let you know just today we had a videogame bookclub in our local gamedev community (all the way in Cali, Colombia 🇨🇴), and we chose your game to kick off the discussion. We all loved it and found a lot of meaning in its themes and amazing attention to detail, which felt quite personal and symbolic... Even if some of us would have dreamed of a happy ending where the hero and the queen could leave their roles behind and go on adventures together.
Here's a picture of us! Thank you again for a great game.
This was a pretty interesting experience. But there were a few things that frustrated me.
The attack keys are in a really awkward position compared to the WASD keys.
The hero doesn't actually learn from the abilities I use. I was able to not use an ability till the "one last" battle, and he dodged like he'd seen it before.
The hitboxes don't line up with the sprites. My mace was swinging right through the hero without dealing damage much of the time.
The Dark Queen said she could dodge, but I couldn't find the button for it. By the end of the game, I really wanted it.
I literally adore this game, it's beautiful. the story is amazing and it feels very undertale-esque with the way the hero keeps coming back, the only su[er teeny tiny problem with it is the controls are a little slow and frustrating sometimes, but its barely an issue and is overshadowed by how great the story is.

Just wanted to know how to play it on android
Great game, amazing pixelart and animations.
This game is amazing! All the endings are great! Especially the pacifist one.

Found a trick. If you spend one round standing there in queen form, you can bitch slap him when he comes back.
can you corrupt the hero? or make him evil or make him your disciple?
GOD THAT WOULD BE AWEZOME
Do you have plans to translate the game into Spanish?
wow! what a great game... i loved these dialogues

Can we have this on portmaster, sir?
Really enjoyed this, the animations, the dialogue, the different endings. LOVED IT
Absolutely need a love story between these two. The queen had so much compassion for the hero by the end. My heart screamed when he had to kill her
This is absolutely phenomenal. Thank you for making this, prompting my first Itchi.io comment, and rekindling my interest in gems like these.

The Greatest love story of our time!!!!!!!!!!
o jogo é incrível, não só pelos gráficos, mas também pela gameplay. recomendo muito uma experiência aprofundada, nem que seja de meia hora.
this was absolutely phenomenal. i need a sequel of some sort please :3
Can't open the .dmg on mac. Getting:
Apple could not verify “The Dark Queen of Mortholme” is free of malware that may harm your Mac or compromise your privacy.
try to open it again then go on system settings then go to privacy & security scroll down and click open anyway
It has different endings? Wonderful! I played through 1 time and I loved the dialogs. I'll be back!!!! =)
